This weekend, I traveled from Sololá to the rainforest of Guatemala to visit the Mayan Ruins of Tikal. We took a school “tourism” van to the airport in Guatemala City and left about 2:00 pm on Friday afternoon. As we were rolling along, we noticed that the roads were completely gone and just dirt remained. During our drive we ran over something and our van broke down. Seeing as how our group was six women, an eagle scout, a Catholic brother and two professors, none of us knew what to do. Dad? Mario? Help! After fifteen minutes of breakdown and revving of the engine, the driver decided to go for it. It isn’t safe to travel at night here, so all of us were so happy that we made it to the city before dark.
This is Ashley and I in the Peten Airport.
Our little 19-seater plane!
Scene of the breakdown...Love,
